Education

Access to education is a basic human right. It reduces poverty and child labor and offers the tools needed to succeed in life

  • 1.9 Million – Children who are of elementary school age but are not enrolled in school.
  • Education is only compulsary for children through 8th Grade.  After graduating from 8th grade, children must take an exam to see if they qualify to go onto High School.
  • The average student/teacher ratio in public schools if 46 students to 1 teacher with many classrooms consisting of up to 100+ students per teacher.
  • Education in Kenya is a privilege that most cannot afford.  Even free schools are not completely free so children have to stay home and work instead of going to school.
  • Girls who are not in school are at a higher risk of being married at 12 and 13 years old. If they are in school, this risk reduces drastically.
